The Metro Can Make Showing Pride Easier
May 15, 2008

Planning to drive to the StreetBlast and Pride celebrations? With limited parking and the high price of gasoline, this could pose a problem.
But here?s a solution: Ride the Metro. Service is available on most Kansas City Metro bus lines until midnight, and there are buses that will take you within one or two blocks of each event.
Bus fare is only $1.25, and you receive a transfer that is good for two hours. Within that time, you can catch as many buses as you wish.
But the Metro also has two package deals that will really save money for those attending the festivities. The day pass, which can be purchased on the bus (except for Routes 152, 170 and 69X) for $3, allows the holder unlimited rides the entire day. The visitor pass, an $8 deal, offers unlimited rides three days in a row. Visitor passes can only be purchased online (http://www.kcata.org/fares/visitors/). Orders are filled within 48 hours.
For those staying in the hotels surrounding the Barney Allis Plaza at 12th and Wyandotte, getting to the StreetBlast at 19th and Main Streets and Pride at Penn Valley Park is as simple as catching the MAX bus at the west corner of 13th and Wyandotte. For the StreetBlast, ride this bus to 20th Street and walk one block north. For the Pride celebration, ride the MAX to the Union Hill stop (located at 31st and Main) and walk two blocks west.
Those staying near the Plaza area can catch the MAX at the west corner of 48th and J.C. Nichols Parkway, one block south of the Nichols Fountain. The same stops apply for reaching these events.
This alternative will save you money and allow you to enjoy the festivities and take a look at our city as you cruise through the various neighborhoods. For additional information, contact the Metro at 816-221-0660 or go to www.kcata.org. Click on Maps & Schedules and scroll to MAX to view its schedule.
Most of all, I hope you enjoy Pride Weekend. See you there.
