CampBiz – September, 2018

I hope you’ve had a great summer. The publication of Camp is now back to its regular monthly frequency after we took a few weeks off with our combined July/August issue. Headlining this issue is our annual MGRA Show-Me State Rodeo supplement that begins on page 16 of the print issue. Make plans to be at the gay rodeo over Labor Day Weekend!

I’d like to thank Center for Inclusion board president Darin Challacombe for contributing not only an article about the Future Leaders scholarship, but also an opinion piece for SpeakOut on page 6 of the print edition. We welcome contributions for that page, both opinion pieces and letters to the editor. We hope to hear from you. Send requests to [email protected].

Heartland Men’s Chorus opens rehearsals to new singers

Who’s ready to start making new friends while singing some holiday music? Potential new singers are invited to attend HMC’s first two rehearsals, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Grace & Holy Trinity Cathedral, 415 W. 13th St. (13th and Broadway), Kansas City, Mo. Come see what all the hubbub is about. Email [email protected] to let us know you’re coming.

We have an amazing season planned! First, HMC will be participating in Kansas City’s Open Spaces Art Experience on Oct. 28. In December, our holiday show is guaranteed to (be) Sleigh. In the spring, we will present Stonewall 50, a new work that commemorates the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the Gay Rights movement. Closing out the season, our summer concert, Rock You, will take us on a wild ride through the music of Queen.

Heartland Men’s Chorus Dinner of Note: Mythical Odyssey

This year’s HMC fundraiser has a Greek mythology theme. Guests will begin the evening at 6 p.m. toasting ambrosia cocktails, bidding on desirable auction items and mingling among Greek muses, a sexy satyr and other fantasy surprises.

The main theater will transport guests to Zeus’ palace, adorned with divine immortals holding court as guests enjoy wine service and a gourmet dinner. After dinner and the live auction, Zeus, Poseidon and Hades will perform emotional arias and musical numbers while the skillful aerial artistry of KC Aerial Arts fills the stage with heroic flights of fancy.

Hades, God of the Underworld, will host the evening’s finale with dancing among the Olympians. Move to the pulsing beats of DJ-spun hits until the magic hour of midnight renders shut the portal between the ancient and modern worlds. The festivities will be at Arvest Bank Theatre at the Midland, 1228 Main St., Kansas City, Mo. For tickets and to view auction items: https://501auctions.com/dinnerofnote.
